It
all started back in March 1976 when Chris and his wife Marcia decided
to keep a snake as a pet. The first job Chris had to do was to build
a vivarium. This may be an easy task now but all those years ago it
was a different story. The main problem was getting good advice. One
day while in the local pet shop Chris met his first herpetologist. So
trying to get all the information he could from his newly acquired friend
plus the man in the pet shop he built, his first vivarium. It was made
of conti-board and heated with a tubular greenhouse heater. True-lite
was also installed. The first snake that Chris purchased was a baby
boa .
Over
the next few years more and more snakes were purchased. Most of them
died within a few months but as time went on his experience grew.
The
turning point came in 1979 when a 'male' cornsnake! Laid 9 eggs,7 babies
somehow hatched. When people knew he had a few baby cornsnakes for sale
they asked if they could purchase them. It was still apparent to Chris
that people still were having trouble getting good advice and finding
good vivarium equipment at a fair price. Chris now decided to start
selling a very small amount of equipment to give the snakes he had bred
the very best chance of survival. As he is not a pet shop and he hasn't
the over heads so there is no need to charge pet shop prices, so more
and more people asked him to supply different items in the pet line.
Chris
has a full time job in the entertainment industry.
